Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in the women's life that happen to be unique and distressing. Such troubles may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other serious issues that are particular to women. Studies show that women could also become involved in drug abuse more readily than men, and are more predisposed to sickness due to addiction problems than males as a result. Due to responsibilities in the home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, drug and alcohol treatment facilities which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women target both common and gender specific problems which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also utilize the positive support from other female peers, plus some facilities which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for their young children.
