Hearing impaired men and women tend to have an elevated likelihood of substance abuse issues because of the impairment, and rehab services should be available to them which cater to their circumstances. Those who are hearing impaired can feel alone, lack motivation, and goalless due to their impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and experience a temporary release from the emotional and psychological problems that accompany possessing this handicap in daily life.
