Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehab to handle both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for individuals involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as those that have mental health disorders frequently self medicate with drugs and alcohol to experience some sort of short-term respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation professionals will help men and women through a detailed rehab plan all targeted at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health as well as dealing with alcohol and drug abuse concerns. Offering a secure setting is key to ensure that dual diagnosis clients can be relaxed and remain free from distraction from things which could compromise their treatment plan and advancement. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to identify environmental factors in the client's life such as negative relationships or other things that must be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and abstinen t after they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop more efficient coping methods so that they are able to better handle life circumstances well when they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as a possible option.
