Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where standard rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in the women's life that are unique and painful. Such difficulties may have to do with sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Research shows that women can also get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more vulnerable to sickness as a result of addiction issues than males consequently. Because of obligations in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. That said, rehab services for women are designed in order that a women's needs would be the concentration and priority. Much like coed programs, drug treatment programs that offer rehab solutions to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a starting point. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both basic and gender specific concerns who have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, and some programs which provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their young children.
