Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab when they need rehab for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to participate in treatment services with the same commitment you might ordinarily have to consent to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an expedient possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and take part in therapy and rehabilitation services part-time on a daily basis or a few days each week. This is often helpful for those who have just completed a more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with only a short history of drug use which is usually a very small amount of clients. For a person with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities which provide treatment over a long-term basis will be the more advantageous treatment choice.
