Hearing impaired individuals tend to have an increased risk of substance abuse issues because of the impairment, and rehab services should be available which serves their needs. Individuals who are hearing impaired can seem to be isolated, lack motivation, and goalless because of their impairment. Many hearing impaired individuals then choose to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and experience a temporary escape from the psychological and emotional problems that accompany possessing this handicap in daily life.
