LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Those who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and viewed as socially unwanted. This can be a very hard and painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a life of drug abuse to numb this pain. Somebody that is LGBT might not feel comfortable within a traditional rehab center amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT rehab provides an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be completely safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors problems which have to be resolved in order to get well. Rehabilitation counselors in the LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their loved ones, in the case their family disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is certainly a frequent trigger for drug abuse, and is a good example of something which will be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence to enable them to lead a wholesome life without any alcohol and drugs.
