A group home for someone who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a facility which offers continual support and assistance for those in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled adolescents, but in addition there are group homes for those with a mental health disorder or who are experiencing behavioral problems for example. As opposed to sending those who are experiencing drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar place, a group home can help offer an appropriate environment to help individuals maintain stability in their lives and have counsel and support at their fingertips around the clock. People who reside in a group home could be taking part in rehab services while in residence, or could be taking measures to get their life setup outside the group home in order to at some time live on their own outside of the group home. By way of example, a troubled youth that has been in recovery or has recovered from drug abusedrug use can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is certainly not a long-term or permanent option, but it is a sensible temporary option for many who are trying to get their lives back together again.
