A group home for somebody who has been involved in alcohol and drug abuse is a place which provides continuous support and assistance for people in recovery. A group home is usually for troubled youth, but in addition there are group homes for people with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. As opposed to sending people who are being affected by drug abusedrug use or recovering from substance abuse to an orphanage, asylum or any other similar facility, a group home will help provide an acceptable environment to help sustain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and assistance at their fingertips around the clock. People who reside in a group home may be involved in treatment services whilst in residence, or could be taking measures to get their life set up outside the group home to enable them to at some time live independently outside the group home. For example, a troubled youth who may have been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or acquire work. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent answer, but it's a sensible temporary option for many who are attempting to get their lives back together again.
