Dual diagnosis rehabs are facilities which provide rehabilitation to handle both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely prevalent situation for individuals involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health issues often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some form of short-term respite from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help people using a detailed treatment plan all aimed at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while also addressing drug abuse concerns. Providing a safe setting is key to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances that may compromise their treatment plan and development. Treatment counselors will work to recognize environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or any other things which must be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally stable and abstinen t after they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab which will help them develop far better coping mechanisms so they are able to better handle life situations more proficiently after they leave dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to drugs and alcohol as a possible answer.
