Hearing impaired men and women generally have a heightened probability of drug use issues because of the impairment, and treatment services have to be at hand which cater to their circumstances. Those who are hearing impaired can appear isolated, lack motivation, and be without goals due to their impairment. Many hearing impaired individuals then decide to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and experience a temporary release from the psychological and emotional problems that accompany having this handicap in life.
