Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which deliver treatment to address both mental health and addiction issues concurrently. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for people involved in substance abuse, as people with mental health issues often medicate themselves with drugs and alcohol to experience some type of temporary relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment counselors will help individuals through a detailed rehabilitation plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, physical and emotional health while also addressing drug abuse concerns. Offering a secure environment is essential to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel relaxed and remain undistracted from circumstances which could compromise their program and progress. Rehab counselors will work to identify environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or other things that need to be addressed in order for the individual to be mentally stable and abstinen t whenever they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehab which helps them develop far better coping mechanisms so they are able to better deal with life situations well if they depart dual diagnosis rehab instead of turning to alcohol and drugs as a possible option.
