To start with, detecting a substance abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, because these individuals may attempt to hide their problem due to social stigmas attached to drug use. Nonetheless, alcohol and drug rehab counselors who offer rehab to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are definitely a necessity, as are rehab services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy gives a forum for important peer interactions to ensure that treatment clients can know they are not on their own, and that there is hope to handle their problem with alcohol and drugs. Individual counseling services may be more tailor-made for everybody to ensure their unique problems can be handled in treatment.
