Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab should they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehabilitation client to take part in treatment services without the commitment one would ordinarily have to consent to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to resolve significant substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People that do choose an outpatient rehab will usually attend meetings and take part in therapy and rehabilitation services part-time daily or a few days each week. This can be very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a much more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For an individual with more severe drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs which offer rehab over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehabilitation option.
