TRICARE is medical insurance which is offered to individuals in the armed forces of the United States. Drug abuse within the military is more common than one would think, and the need to offer treatment to these individuals is a vital priority. TRICARE covers a variety of rehabilitation services to deal with drug and alcohol dependence like detox services, in addition to rehab in outpatient, partial hospitalization and inpatient programs. People who have TRICARE will of course need to have a prior authorization before taking part in any kind of treatment service, which may be organized using their regional TRICARE liaison. If an inpatient facility will be the preferred rehab choice, TRICARE covers a 3 week period or one inpatient stay in that program per benefit period which is every 12 months. There are certain limits regarding just how long a TRICARE member can stay in an inpatient program that accepts TRICARE, then there is typically a 30-45 day window which is covered. TRICARE also covers family therapy which may be very useful, as it may help include loved ones in the healing and recovery process. No member of the military should fight this battle alone, and there are skilled rehab counselors waiting to help today.
