Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide treatment to address both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some sort of temporary respite from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation professionals can help individuals using a comprehensive rehabilitation plan all targeted at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health whilst addressing substance abuse issues. Providing a safe setting is key to ensure dual diagnosis clients can feel comfortable and remain undistracted from circumstances which may compromise their treatment plan and advancement. Treatment counselors will continue to work to spot environmental issues in the client's life including negative relationships or other things which should be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally stable and abstinen t once they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral treatment that helps them develop more efficient coping methods so that they are able to better handle life situations well when they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior option.
