Individuals who wish to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to participate in treatment services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, specifically those individuals who need to solve substantial substance abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab might appear to be a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and be a part of counseling and treatment services part-time daily or a few days weekly. This can be very helpful for many who have recently completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a brief history of drug abuse which is usually a really small number of clients. For an individual with more significant addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which provide rehabilitation over a long-term basis will be the more effective rehabilitation choice.
