Offering gender-specific rehabilitation services has shown to be very useful in circumstances where standard rehabilitation settings have not meet expectations, including coping with situations inside a women's life which are unique and distressing. Such issues may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, and other serious issues which are specific to women. Studies show that women also can become involved in drug abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more vulnerable to illness because of addiction issues than males because of this. Due to duties in the home, women also tend to put off seeking out and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Just like coed rehabs, drug and alcohol treatment centers which offer treatment services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both standard and gender-specific problems which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, and a few centers which provide rehab services to women also provide client beds for her young children.
