Being diagnosed with HIV/AIDS may set off drug abuse, or risky sexual conduct due to substance abuse may have caused the person to contract the disease. People who have HIV/AIDS, either on account of their substance abuse or as a pre-existing condition just before their drug use issue, typically require rehabilitation services tailored to fulfill their specific needs and problems. Many of these problems are physical in nature, because of the fact that substance abusers with HIV/AIDS rarely take care of themselves and take the proper medicines they need to preserve their own health. As a result, these individuals arrive to rehab in very poor physical shape and this will have to be addressed as a priority while dealing with other important concerns. Apart from the obvious necessity to provide medical services whilst in rehabilitation, people who have HIV/AIDS also have to deal with deeper problems which prompted their drug or alcohol use. Usually, individuals have situations within their lives that are strictly environmental which may have triggered them to use drugs or alcohol, such as oppressive situations within their lives or detrimental relationships. These are the concerns which rehabilitation counselors will concentrate on in HIV/AIDS rehabilitation services.
