Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven very useful in situations where conventional rehabilitation facilities have not meet expectations, for example coping with situations inside a women's life which are distinctive and painful. Such difficulties may relate to sexual abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and being a mother, or other significant issues which can be particular to women. Research has shown that women also can become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to sickness due to dependency problems than males consequently. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to postpone looking for and receiving treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. With this in mind, treatment services for women are created to ensure that a women's needs will be the concentration and priority. Similar to coed facilities, drug treatment centers which offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women target both standard and gender-specific problems which may have prompted their substance abuse. Women also enjoy the positive support from their female peers, and a few centers which offer rehabilitation services to women also provide client beds for her kids.
