Criminal justice client rehabs can be considered as a significantly better option than time in jail or significant fines for those who have been convicted of any sort of drug or alcohol related crime. As an example, a person who has been in prison for driving drunk of alcohol or drugs may qualify for rehab services for their problem as an alternative to serving time in prison. The judge may even order that the individual receive rehab, either alone or in addition to other sentencing. First-time offenders in particular in many cases are given the ability to select a criminal justice client rehab as opposed to other sentencing, and it is highly recommended they take advantage of it when it is a possibility. The concept behind criminal justice client rehabs is that it is much more effective and efficient to invest commitment into treatment than enforcement of other consequences. Much research has been carried out to see how effective this strategy is on recidivism rates, i.e. if the criminal justice client returns or not to criminal justice system following rehabilitation. All indicators seem quite positive, and criminal justice clients that experience rehab have a better probability of remaining out of the system after rehabilitation.
