Outpatient rehab enables the rehab client to take part in rehabilitation services without the commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug treatment program. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People who do decide on an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and take part in therapy and rehabilitation services part-time each day or several days weekly. This is helpful for those who have recently completed a more complete inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with only a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For somebody with more significant drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug treatment facilities that provide treatment over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective treatment choice.
