Individuals who would like to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment one would ordinarily have to agree to within an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab program. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve substantial drug abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those who do choose an outpatient rehab will ordinarily take part in meetings and take part in counseling and treatment services part-time each day or a few days weekly. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is usually a very small number of clients. For somebody with more severe addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities that provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehab alternative.
