Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab enables the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would normally have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to solve significant drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who decide on an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehabilitation services part-time on a daily basis or several days each week. This is very helpful for those who have recently completed a much more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with only a short history of drug use which is really a very small percentage of clients. For a person with more significant drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab facilities which offer rehab on a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial treatment option.
