Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver treatment to address both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely prevalent situation for those involved with drug abuse, as individuals with mental health problems often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to to feel some sort of short-term relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehab counselors will help individuals using a thorough rehabilitation plan all aimed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health as well as dealing with drug abuse issues. Offering a safe environment is key so that dual diagnosis clients can feel at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances that may cut across their treatment plan and advancement. Rehab counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and abstinen t when they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral treatment which will help them develop more efficient coping methods so that they are better able to handle life circumstances well after they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to drugs as a possible option.
