Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to handle both mental health and addiction issues simultaneously. Dual diagnosis is an extremely prevalent situation for folks involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as those that have mental health problems often medicate themselves with alcohol and drugs to to feel some kind of temporary relief from their disorder. Within a dual diagnosis rehab, rehabilitation counselors will help individuals through a thorough rehabilitation plan all directed at restoring and replenishing mental, emotional and physical health while also dealing with alcohol and drug abuse problems. Providing a secure setting is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things which may compromise their program and progress. Rehab counselors will continue to work to identify environmental issues in the client's life including negative people in their lives or other things which have to be addressed in order for the person to be mentally healthy and sober t when they depart dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also reap the benefits of behavioral rehab which helps them develop more efficient coping methods so they are better able to deal with life situations more proficiently if they depart dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible answer.
