Individuals who want to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab allows for the rehab client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would usually have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab program. This doesn't always work in the rehab client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everyone. People that decide on an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and be a part of counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis daily or a few days weekly. This is very helpful for individuals who have recently completed a far more extensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is usually a really small amount of clients. For someone with more significant addiction and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab programs that provide treatment on a long-term basis will probably be the more effective rehab alternative.
