Individuals who wish to maintain some flexibility in their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab will allow for the treatment client to take part in treatment services without the commitment one would normally have to agree to in an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those clients who need to address significant substance abuse issues. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. People that do choose an outpatient rehab will typically attend meetings and be a part of therapy and treatment services part-time on a daily basis or a few days per week. This can be very helpful for those who have just completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or maintenance step, and for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more severe addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers which provide rehab over a long-term basis are going to be the more advantageous rehab alternative.
