Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab whenever they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehab center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to address substantial substance abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will typically take part in meetings and take part in counseling and rehab services on a part-time basis on a daily basis or a few days a week. This is very helpful for many who have recently completed a far more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with just a short history of drug abuse which is usually a very small amount of clients. For someone with more serious addiction and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs which provide rehabilitation on a long-term basis will probably be the more advantageous rehab option.
