A group home for a person who has been involved in drug and alcohol abuse is a facility which provides continual support and assistance for folks in recovery. A group home is ordinarily for troubled youth, but there's also group homes for individuals with a mental health problem or who are experiencing behavioral trouble for example. Instead of sending individuals who are experiencing substance abuse or recovering from drug abuse to an orphanage, asylum or other similar place, a group home can help provide an acceptable environment to help individuals maintain stability inside their lives and still have counsel and support at their fingertips 24/7. Residents within a group home may be involved in rehabilitation services during residence, or could possibly be taking measures to get their life setup outside the group home so that they can at some point live on their own not in the group home. For instance, a troubled youth who's been in recovery or has recovered from substance abuse can work on getting their GED or obtain employment. A group home is not necessarily a long-term or permanent option, but it is a practical short term option for individuals who are trying to get their lives back together again.
