Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility within their lives can engage in an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for drug or alcohol abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehabilitation services with the same commitment you might usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation center. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to solve significant substance abuse problems. So although an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient option, it isn't for everybody. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and take part in therapy and rehab services part-time on a daily basis or several days weekly. This is often helpful for individuals who have just completed a much more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or someone with only a short history of drug abuse which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For somebody with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment facilities which provide rehab over a long-term basis will be the more beneficial rehabilitation alternative.
