Individuals who wish to maintain a lot of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab whenever they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the treatment client to participate in rehab services without the commitment you might usually have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab program. This doesn't often work in the rehab client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to resolve significant drug abuse issues. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like an expedient option, it isn't for everyone. Those that do choose an outpatient rehab will generally show up at meetings and take part in therapy and treatment services on a part-time basis every day or a few days each week. This is helpful for many who have just completed a far more complete inpatient or residential program as a good aftercare or upkeep step, or for someone with just a brief history of substance abuse which is usually a very small percentage of clients. For an individual with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers which offer treatment over a long-term basis are going to be the more effective rehabilitation alternative.
