Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which provide rehab to address both addiction and mental health issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common circumstance for those involved in drug and alcohol abuse, as people with mental health disorders often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some form of short-term relief from their disorder. Rehabilitation counselors will continue to work to spot environmental factors in the client's life including negative people in their lives or any other things which have to be addressed in order for the individual to stay mentally healthy and abstinen t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehab that helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are able to better handle life situations more effectively when they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to drugs and alcohol as an inferior option.
