Offering gender-specific rehab services has shown to be worthwhile in situations where standard rehabilitation settings have fallen short, like dealing with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and painful. Such concerns may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other significant issues that are specific to women. Studies show that women may also get involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and are more vulnerable to illness due to dependency problems than males consequently. Due to duties in the home, women also tend to postpone searching for and receiving treatment, a situation which can be a catalyst for catastrophe. With this in mind, rehab services for women are designed so that a women's needs will be the focus and priority. Just like coed rehabs, alcohol and drug rehab facilities that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. Following this step, counselors help women focus on both general and gender-specific concerns which may have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the beneficial support from their female peers, and a few facilities which offer rehab services to women also provide client beds for her children.
