Hearing impaired men and women tend to have an increased probability of drug abuse issues due to their impairment, and rehab services have to be at hand which cater to their needs. Those who are hearing impaired can seem to be alone, lack motivation, and be without goals because of the impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with drugs or alcohol to numb this pain and have a temporary escape from the emotional and psychological problems that come with possessing this handicap in everyday life. In the first place, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired is usually a challenge, since these individuals may make an attempt to hide their issue due to social stigmas that come with drug abuse. Having said that, alcohol and drug rehabilitation counselors who provide rehab to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges that these clients face. ASL rehab services are definitely a necessity, as are rehabilitation services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals encounter. Group therapy provides a forum for important peer support to ensure treatment clients can know that they're not alone, and that there is hope to resolve their challenge with alcohol and drugs. Individual therapy services could be more tailor-made for each person to ensure their own problems can be handled in rehab.
