Hearing impaired men and women tend to have an increased risk of drug abuse issues because of their impairment, and rehabilitation services should be available to them which serves their needs. People who are hearing impaired can appear isolated, unmotivated, and be without goals for their impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then opt to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and experience a temporary release from the psychological and emotional challenges that come with possessing this handicap in everyday life.
