You can avert certain withdrawal symptoms, make them more manageable, or otherwise make sure they are tolerable while they last which is typically only a few days. People who undergo drug detox or alcohol detoxification should not stop here, and departing treatment after only achieving this makes all efforts to this point mute. This is because folks who only detox and receive no further rehabilitation do equally as well as somebody who never participated in any treatment to start with. Detoxification isn't rehab, so folks who undergo drug detox and alcohol detoxification must invest in an extensive treatment plan addresses every aspect of their drug or alcohol addiction.
