Hearing Impaired Rehab Services - Salt Lake City, Utah
Hearing impaired men and women generally have a greater risk of substance abuse issues because of their impairment, and treatment services should be at hand which serves their circumstances. People who are hearing impaired can seem to be isolated, unmotivated, and goalless because of their impairment. Some hearing impaired individuals then elect to self medicate with alcohol or drugs to numb this pain and have a temporary escape from the psychological and emotional challenges that accompany possessing this handicap in life. To begin with, detecting a drug and alcohol abuse problem among the hearing impaired is generally a challenge, because these individuals may try and hide their problem because of social stigmas that come with abusing drugs. However, alcohol and drug treatment counselors who provide treatment to hearing impaired individuals see the challenges these clients face. ASL rehabilitation services are of course a necessity, as well as treatment services which address the unique challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy provides a forum for important peer interactions in order that rehab clients can know they are not alone, and that there is hope to handle their challenge with drugs and alcohol. Individual therapy services may be more tailor-made for each individual so that their own challenges can be remedied in treatment.
