LGBT stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and considered socially depraved. This is often a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of drug use to alleviate these feelings. Somebody that is LGBT might not exactly feel at ease in a traditional rehabilitation facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program provides an environment that is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can feel totally safe and comfortable revealing to their peers and rehab counselors issues which need to be handled to enable them to recover. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients fix relationships with their family members, in case their family disagree with their sexual choice as is generally the case. This circumstance is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and it is an example of an issue that can be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a healthy life free of drugs and alcohol.
