Hearing impaired men and women tend to have an elevated likelihood of substance abuse issues due to their impairment, and rehab services must be available which cater to their circumstances. Those who are hearing impaired can appear alone, unmotivated, and be without goals because of their impairment. Having said that, drug and alcohol treatment counselors who offer treatment to hearing impaired individuals understand the challenges that these clients face. ASL treatment services are of course a must, as well as rehabilitation services which address the particular challenges that hearing impaired individuals face. Group therapy offers a forum for important peer interactions so that rehabilitation clients can know that they are not on their own, and that there is hope to handle their challenge with alcohol and drugs. Individual counseling services may be more tailor-made for everybody so that their unique problems can be treated in treatment.
