Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in situations where conventional rehab settings have not meet expectations, including coping with situations in a women's life that are distinctive and painful. Such difficulties may pertain to sexual abuse, physical abuse, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, and other serious issues which are particular to women. Research has shown that women could also get embroiled in drug abuse more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to illness as a result of drug abuse issues than males because of this. Because of duties in their home, women also tend to put off looking for and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are created in order that a women's needs would be the focus and priority. Similar to coed centers, drug rehabilitation centers that offer rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women concentrate on both basic and gender specific issues which may have brought on their drug abuse. Women also may take advantage of the positive support from their female peers, plus some programs that provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their kids.
