Dual diagnosis rehabs are programs which deliver rehabilitation to deal with both mental health and addiction concerns at the same time. Dual diagnosis is a very common situation for individuals involved with substance abuse, as those that have mental health disorders often self medicate with alcohol and drugs to to feel some type of temporary respite from their disorder. In a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment professionals will help men and women through a comprehensive rehab plan all aimed at restoring and stabilizing mental, emotional and physical health while also dealing with substance abuse issues. Providing a safe and secure environment is essential so that dual diagnosis clients can be comfortable and remain free from distraction from things which could compromise their treatment plan and development. Rehab counselors will continue to work to spot environmental factors in the client's life including negative relationships or any other things that must be addressed in order for the person to stay mentally stable and sober t once they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation that helps them develop more effective coping methods so they are better able to deal with life situations well once they leave dual diagnosis rehab rather than returning to alcohol and drugs as a possible answer.
