Dual diagnosis rehabs are centers which provide treatment to deal with both mental health and addiction issues at the same time. Dual diagnosis is an extremely common situation for folks involved with drug and alcohol abuse, as people who have mental health problems frequently self medicate with alcohol and drugs to experience some form of short-term respite from their disorder. Inside a dual diagnosis rehab, treatment professionals can help people through a detailed treatment plan all targeted at restoring and replenishing mental, physical and emotional health while dealing with alcohol and drug abuse problems. Offering a secure setting is key so that dual diagnosis clients can be at ease and remain undistracted from circumstances which may compromise their treatment plan and development. Rehab counselors will work to recognize environmental issues in the client's life such as negative people in their lives or any other things that must be addressed in order for the individual to remain mentally healthy and sober t whenever they leave dual diagnosis rehab. Dual diagnosis clients also benefit from behavioral rehabilitation which helps them develop more effective coping mechanisms so that they are better able to deal with life situations well once they leave dual diagnosis rehab as opposed to turning to alcohol and drugs as an inferior solution.
