LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially depraved. This is often a very difficult or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of drug abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone that is LGBT might not exactly feel safe within a conventional rehabilitation center amongst people who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing of their lives. A LGBT center provides an environment which is free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally comfortable and safe divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be resolved so that they can get better. Treatment counselors in a LGBT rehab can help clients mend relationships with their loved ones, in the case their loved ones disagree with their sexual preference as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for drug abuse, and is also an illustration of an issue that will be resolved in rehabilitation. LGBT clients often simply want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence in order to lead a healthy life clear of alcohol and drugs.
