Offering gender-specific treatment services has shown to be beneficial in circumstances where standard rehab facilities have not meet expectations, like coping with situations in the women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such difficulties may relate to sexual abuse, physical trauma, psychological abuse, eating disorders, one's family members and motherhood, or any other really serious issues which can be specific to women. Research has shown that women could also become involved in substance abuse more easily than men, and therefore are more predisposed to sickness as a result of dependency problems than males because of this. Due to duties in their home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and undergoing treatment, a situation which can lead to disaster. That said, treatment services for women are designed to ensure that a women's needs are the focus and priority. Similar to coed rehabs, drug rehab programs which provide rehabilitation services to women help women through detoxification and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both general and gender specific issues who have triggered their drug or alcohol use. Women also benefit from the beneficial support from other female peers, and several centers which provide rehabilitation services to women offer client beds for their kids.
