LGBT means lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are programs which address the unique needs of these clients. People who are LGBT can feel alone, not understood, and seen as socially unwanted. This is sometimes a quite challenging or painful existence, and leads many LGBT individuals to a life of substance abuse to alleviate this pain. Someone who is LGBT might not feel relaxed within a conventional rehabilitation facility amongst individuals who aren't experiencing the same problems they may be experiencing in their lives. A LGBT program offers an environment which is free from judgment, where LGBT clients can feel completely comfortable and safe revealing to their peers and treatment counselors problems which must be resolved to enable them to recover. Rehabilitation counselors within a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their family members, in the event their family disagree with their sexual choice as is often the case. This situation is an extremely frequent trigger for abusing drugs, which is a good example of a thing that could be resolved in treatment. LGBT clients often would like to be accepted in their lives, and rehabilitation will help them accept themselves and create confidence to enable them to lead a healthy life clear of alcohol and drugs.
