Individuals who would like to maintain some flexibility within their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need rehabilitation for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehabilitation client to participate in rehab services without the commitment one would usually have to consent to in an inpatient or residential drug rehabilitation program. This doesn't always work in the rehabilitation client's favor however, specifically those clients who need to address significant substance abuse problems. So even though an outpatient rehab may seem like a convenient possibility, it isn't for everybody. Those that do decide on an outpatient rehab will usually take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services on a part-time basis each day or several days a week. This is often helpful for many who have just completed an even more comprehensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or upkeep step, and someone with only a short history of substance abuse which is really a really small percentage of clients. For someone with more significant drug abuse and dependency problems, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment centers which provide rehab over a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial rehabilitation option.
