Individuals who would like to maintain a certain amount of flexibility in their lives can take advantage of an outpatient rehab if they need treatment for substance abuse. Outpatient rehab makes it possible for the rehab client to participate in rehab services with the same commitment one would normally have to agree to within an inpatient or residential drug and alcohol rehab facility. This doesn't often work in the treatment client's favor however, particularly for those individuals who need to resolve substantial drug abuse problems. So while an outpatient rehab might appear to be an opportune possibility, it isn't for everyone. Those who choose an outpatient rehab will ordinarily take part in meetings and be a part of counseling and rehabilitation services part-time every day or several days per week. This is often helpful for individuals who have just completed an even more extensive inpatient or residential program as an effective aftercare or maintenance step, or for someone with just a short history of substance abuse which is really a very small percentage of clients. For somebody with more serious drug abuse and dependency issues, inpatient or residential alcohol and drug treatment programs which provide rehab over a long-term basis are going to be the more beneficial treatment alternative.
