Offering gender-specific treatment services has proven very useful in circumstances where traditional treatment settings have fallen short, including dealing with situations within a women's life that are unique and traumatic. Such issues may have to do with sexual abuse, physical trauma, mental abuse, eating disorders, one's family and motherhood, or other serious issues that are specific to women. Research has revealed that women also can become involved in abusing drugs more readily than men, and so are more predisposed to sickness because of drug abuse issues than males because of this. Due to obligations in the home, women also tend to postpone trying to find and receiving care for addiction, a circumstance which can be a catalyst for disaster. Being mindful of this, treatment services for women are created so that a women's needs are the concentration and priority. Much like coed centers, alcohol and drug treatment facilities which offer rehabilitation solutions to women help women through detox and withdrawal as a first step. After this step, counselors help women give attention to both basic and gender specific issues which may have prompted their drug or alcohol use. Women also utilize the positive support from other female peers, and several facilities that provide rehabilitation services to women provide client beds for their young children.
