LGBT is short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and there are centers which address the unique needs of these clients. Individuals who are LGBT can often feel alone, misunderstood, and considered socially depraved. This is often an extremely tough or painful way to live, and leads many LGBT people to a lifestyle of substance abuse to numb this pain. Someone that is LGBT may not feel at ease within a conventional treatment facility amongst folks who aren't experiencing the same challenges they are experiencing in their lives. A LGBT facility offers an environment which can be free of judgment, where LGBT clients can be totally safe and comfortable divulging to their peers and rehab counselors issues which have to be resolved in order to recover. Rehabilitation counselors in a LGBT rehab will help clients repair relationships with their loved ones, in the event that their family disagree with their sexual choice as is generally the case. This situation is an extremely common trigger for substance abuse, and is a good example of something which would be resolved in rehab. LGBT clients often just want to be accepted within their lives, and rehab will help them accept themselves and build confidence to be able to lead a wholesome life clear of alcohol and drugs.
